The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training advised Cambodian overseas workers, and those who are returning to Cambodia, to follow health measures imposed by the authorities.
The Ministry said in a statement issued on April 29 that the main purposes of the guidance are for health, safety, and livelihood protection of Cambodian workers currently working abroad and returning home during the spread of Covid-19.
The Ministry has asked those who are currently living and working overseas to follow rules, orders, and health measures imposed by the authorities of the country and to implement the instructions of the embassy or consulate of the Kingdom of Cambodia in the country they are working. They are also advised to follow their employers’ instructions and must contact the embassy immediately if there are any issues.
As for migrant workers who have returned to Cambodia, they are strictly requested to follow health measures and instructions of the authorities of borders and health checkpoints and quarantine for 14 days in accordance with the procedures of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Interior. The Ministry of Labour also said that if the workers are financially struggling on a daily basis during the pandemic, they have to inform the local authorities to receive intervention services. They are also able to contact the Department of Labour and Vocational Training, and any work centers nearby, for further information on job opportunities.
In addition, the Ministry of Labour also called for Cambodian workers who arrived home to help families with farming, plantation, and other agricultural activities while awaiting a new job here or planning to return abroad.
