Chefs from around the globe come together for a good cause in temple town
It isn’t often that chefs from across the globe join hands to support a charity in Cambodia. But on Friday night, April 26, eight chefs from five countries will do just that, pooling their talents in a five-course gala dinner in Siem Reap, labeled “Chefs Get Together.”
The beneficiary is the SPOONS Cambodia Organisation, which has trained hundreds of underprivileged Cambodian men and women for careers in the hospitality industry. The current class will assist in preparing and serving the dinner.
The event is a collaboration of American “Chef Outta Water” Chris Holen and Siem Reap Chef Mengly Mork, owner of the PinakPou restaurant. It will also feature chefs Michael Brine of Australia, Kristvin Thor Gautason and Ulfar Darri Thorsson of Iceland, Rachel Gaetano Griffith of the US and Judyta Slupnicki of Poland, along with SPOONS executive chef Vuthy Keo.
The international menu will offer Khmer pomelo citrus salad with crispy coconut rice cake, Tonlé Sap whitefish ceviche, Icelandic fish soup with seared scallops and shrimp, Polish sweet-potato pierogi with macadamia nuts, and crème caramel with fermented black sticky rice. The cost of the set meal, which will be served from 6 to 10 p.m., is 49 USD. Live music and a raffle are included.
Prior to the dinner, on Thursday, April 25, the “Chef Outta Water” team will join Chef Mengly to prepare a pop-up breakfast of Khmer street foods at his PinakPou restaurant on Wat Bo Road, with proceeds benefiting a local children’s hospital.
